Wild Lights
When I first heard James Yarsky as the featured artist on WBAB's Homegrown, I was literally blown away. This talented young man touched something deep inside of me with his lyrical content, unique voice and musical brilliance. This biographical song perfectly captures the essence of Poe's life and work. It explains with heartfelt detail, the tragedies that were the inspiration behind his poems and prose.
When James first sent me his demo copy, he wrote: "I wrote the number after re-reading some Poe stories and poems and then reading about his life. The term "Wild Nights" is from the end of
Fall of the House of Usher referring to the lights of death that consumed the house. There are several Poe literary references in the lyric, but nothing too distracting for someone who knows nothing about his life."
To me, the song is Poe.
